IITs may admit foreign students from 2017

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the country will, in all probability, open their doors to foreign students for their UG and PG courses through a common entrance test conducted in several countries from the next academic year 2017. A final decision is likely to be taken in the next IIT Council meeting.

As per the sources, foreign students who seek admissions will be charged the full course fees. The government may consider giving scholarships to students of certain countries, but in general the public money will be used.

For UG courses, Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) will be conducted in several countries, and for PG courses, Graduate Aptitude Tests in Engineering (GATE) will be one of the criteria for selection of candidates.
