Overseas Candidates can now apply for Karnataka CET 2016

Students from the State of Karnataka, who fall under the PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) and the OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) categories, can now apply for the Karnataka CET 2016. The last date for the submission of application forms has already been extended till February 25, 2016.

The Karnataka High Court has issued fresh directions to the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) to grant permission to overseas students to apply for the CET. The overseas candidates had approached the High Court again, due to non-compliance of earlier High Court orders dt. August 27, 2015 by KEA. In these orders, the High Court had directed that overseas students be allowed to appear in the common entrance test.

S N Gangadhariah, administrative officer, KEA said that as per the High Court’s interim order, they are allowing the students to apply for the CET. In case, the government files an appeal and court rules in its favour, they will take an appropriate decision.

The Karnataka Common Entrance Test KCET 2016 will be conducted on May 1 and May 2, 2016. The examination will be conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority, and is a gateway for those aspiring for admission into various undergraduate (UG) professional programs at government, aided, private un-aided minority/non-minority institutes in the state of Karnataka.
