RMIT programs have changed from 3 year Bachelor Degrees to 4 year Honours degrees. A number of Bachelor of Engineering Honours Degrees were launched in 2014 as well as Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design) (Honours).
There are plans to update further programs within the Design and Social Context portfolio. These changes have been made to acknowledge the significant research/project component of the program structure, and to allow students to receive a qualification with Honours merit. The key change is the addition of ‘(Honours)’ to the title. This indicates an embedded Honours equivalent within the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level 8.
The benefits of students gaining the 4 year honours qualifications are two-fold:
|
| |
inclusion of key research skills, including research methods, increasing potential to progress onto a Higher Degree by Research program (PhD)
| |
|
| |
defining and demonstrating an area of professional engagement through a year-long, research-led and industry-engaged project. This experience acts as a scaffold for entry into the profession and opens up opportunities beyond graduation.
