Parental earnings influences the success of a school
more than the teacher’s ability, according to a study at
University
College,
London and Kings College, London
The study showed that whatever their background,
children do better if they attend a ‘middle-class’
school according to Prof. Richard Webbes at UCL, which
studied 4,76,000 11- year olds and 4,82,000 15- year
olds.
The study has revealed that a child’s social background
is the crucial factor in academic performance, not the
quality of teaching nor the facilities.
One possible explanation could be that middle-class
parents give priority for education and learning. They
provide the required motivation and environment to their
children to excel in studies.
The school administration has found a dependable way to
maintain a high or even one hundred percent results;
Admit pupils from middle-class background and you are
assured of a one hundred percent results even if you do
not have the best facilities or the best teachers. |
